no, not judging from the background in the picture. thats not the box from the film. indeed if you read the article it actually mentions withnail and i.

so the locals could save THE phone box if they wanted to, just have the actual phone removed?

If it came to that.

But I think the phonebox in Bampton is so iconic (I mean the 'W&I' one) it is unlikely it will ever be removed.

With respect to Bampton, what else is Bampton known for?

The stink that would be caused if BT even suggested that they were considering removing the box! There would be articles in the national press, groups on Facebook galore...

I was going to say that because of mobile phones, phoneboxes are dying out. And while that is largely true, from my visit to Bampton last year with Parkin I think the phonebox in question no longer accepts coins. But it will accept cards and deal with emergency calls.

So I think the box is safe.
