Er, I am technologically a bit of a wanker - no camera, no link-up stuff from phone to PC, etc. So no pic of my beard.

But I'm visiting a gadget friend this weekend; maybe I'll hook up some pics.

McFuck, used to shave regularly; my partner had very sensitive skin. But, alas, that has come to an end. I'm now growing a little goatee so as to enhance my image, how shall I say, as a man of letters.

Thanks for the comments. Re: t-shirt. Are you an ex-pat? Beard: I trimmed it yesterday. Looking forward to seeing any pics you may post. Indeed, I don't think we know what you look like.

Not at all, Purveyor. Born and bred in the Cape Colony. I read the Grauniad online.

OK, pa-rappa-pa-raaa, here's my goattee... Now, how does this work? (sorry for the lo-fi pic; it's all I have; doesn't do justice to the beard. Not that the beard is brilliant. In fact, think I'm gonna give it another week or 2, then shave it.)

Neat beard, Bates! Better than mine. It---how you say?---'more mature'. Don't shave it.

Now I've trimmed mine, I'm not sure where to go next. Do I grow it back to where it was before (or even longer)? If so, what is the point of growing it? Or should I just keep trimming it weekly. The original point was to stop shaving so the spots on my chin would not become reinfected daily. Now, while the spots are not so bad, I dunno what to do. Do I like having a goatee or do I not? Put it this way: I certainly prefer not shaving around the mouth. That is the most tricky area.

Think I may wait till the preference of the next woman I 'get lucky with'. Hmm... that could be a ve-ry long wait.

I think we saw (something like?) this before.

Wild!

I am certain that would not be permitted at my place of employment...

I try to keep up with events in the metropole...

The quality of local news coverage is bad, the local news itself may be boring or depressing; generally, I'm interested in books, international news, miscellaneous cultural things, football (although 'my' team) is doing badly. I also use the MBM coverage for football and cricket.

A local weekly here is part owned by Grauniad; and, then, because this is the way we do things here (i.e. rather use syndication than pay writers), about 50% of that Mail&Guardian will be sourced from Grauniad, but a few days later. Might as well go to the source...

Naturally.

I'm a tentative Liverpool fan, tentative mainly because I am new to football, about 5 years of on-and-off interest - possibly the furthest a football 'fan' can be from an anorak. My interest in football, strangely, comes from computer games, specifically Football Manager, where I managed, erm, The Robins, took them eventually to the Premier League, but never made an impression.

And I haven't now had a tv for 3 years, so, I'm that kind of Liverpool 'fan'.

The kind of place that doesn't destroy your soul, where if you died in the night you would actually be missed and people's things wouldn't get grown or made or fixed, where you actually do something other than send emails and make and take phone calls about absolutely nothing of any consequence at all. Or a mosque maybe.

Most places then! Are you working, crooked? What do your employers say about your goatee? And can I have a job?
