REG should consider some new recruits for the campaign, "Careful now"

Incidentally when I first saw the post I thought it might have been Zeffirelli`s cinema in Ambleside, not sure if the name has any direct connections with the film with the franco thing but Im pretty sure W&I was originally shown here in the early days.

A friend in Cumbria told me the local newspaper, 'Cumbria News & Star', are planning a big feature on 'Withnail and I' precisely because of the demise of the Alhambra cinema in Penrith.

Apparently the cinema is likely to close, despite the REG-led petition, but - here's the good news - WITHNAIL AND I will be the last film shown there! Which is both elegant and sad ... a bit like the film, in fact.

Seems as though W&I will be the final film unless the decision is revoked.

Was planned to shut 3 March so looks like they have got an extention till April, will keep a brass eye on it in case they plan to show W&I as the curtain closer then we can organise a visit and get in there and get wrecked, hip flask at the ready
