What is a Grown Up?

PostPosted by Withwine and I » Fri Sep 14, 2012 12:14 pm

I came across this thing and wondered what people here think of it and how much applies:

What a load of bollocks.

Knowing how to do certain things or aquiring certain possessions in no way makes you a 'grown up'. Being a reliable, mature, level-headed responsible person makes you an adult.

I've known people who've done a lot of things on that list but are still in no way mature adults.

Also... 'Always going out with a sensible pair of shoes'? If thats an indicator of being a proper adult, I will never be growing up. Five inch heels are constantly needed when you're only 5'4"! :P

Edited to say: I've just had a good long look through that list, and I meet a lot of those requirements. I still don't think I'd class myself as a proper adult though. I'm totally lost with life, and I'll freely admit that.

It is a bit of a silly list but it's for fun really, some building society paid for a survey of some people. It's not the official list of criteria (I think that's the even more stupid single item of being eighteen or above). Might go through it and see all of the ones I tick though, for fun, because I'm bored, and I'm meant to be cleaning and cooking, so I need to procrastinate.

A list for fun? What is this fun you speak of?

Fun is... distracting yourself from things you think you should be doing? I'm not sure.

I used to take drugs to make the world feel weird, now I take drugs to make the world feel normal.

I've officially forgotten. I have nice times occasionally but it's been a long long time since I had proper fun. Life is depressingly boring. :|

I think this calls for a bit of Tom Waits.

Some may accuse me of blasphemy, but I prefer The Ramones' version.

Bejesus what a load of old gobbledyegook, at my age I have manged to do some of the listed items, though very badly in some cases, but why do we have to be pigeon holed into being a grown up, who gives a toss, you are what you are and you get through life the best way you can and if that means painting Tippex numbers on the shells of garden snails then throwing them over the neighbours fence to freak him out then Im going to do it, or if it means dancing around the living room like Louie Spence while explaining that fart bubbles can sometimes come in liquid form then im going to do it, it does not stop me paying my mortgage, FFS.

I've discovered the one good thing about being grown-up enough to pay tax, and that is the nice tax refund Mr Taxman was kind enough to send me back. FUCK YEEEEAAAHHHH.

Drinks are on me guys. 8)

Well, it was invented by a guy named Francis SHOWERING...
... followed by yet another anecdote about his sensitive crimes in a punt with a chap called Norman, who had red hair and a book of poetry stained with the butter drips from crumpets.
