Blimey, how parochial the villagers are. Life imitating art? I'd forgotten all about that barrage of abuse I received. I feel like Nicole Kidman in Dogville... a bit.
Anyway, I was doing a little Withnail surfing again and found myself here once more. Gotta say, I find it strange that people would spend so long in a such a specialised forum. I would've thought discussing the film, its themes, Robinson etc. would benefit from input from people who are not 'fan' enough to stick round here for so long (e.g. imdb). Still, like chatrooms, many of the people here probably haven't even realised how much they might've succumbed to a siege mentality. 'Outsiders not welcome', eh?
As for the idea of killing off the 'offending' thread? Why? There was no harm done (I find umprompted rudeness more tedious than hurtful). I'm the moderator of a website forum myself and there's one guy who just dives in and calls us all 'queer' and 'wankers' etc. Nobody has any idea why. Now that is a good reason for squishing someone. So, some perspective please, kind people. As to the guy who called me pompous - bollocks. Notwithstanding the fact that the proverbial tongue in cheek is hard to translate in the immediate, and less reflective, environment of the chatroom, I gave the the creator of The Enbalmer the respect and gratitude he so well deserves, and I paid the fellow adults here the compliment of assuming that they could handle a difference of opinion regarding what consitutes the best listening experience when it comes to soundtrack albums. So quit the bigging up the big man routine. He's man enough to defend his own corner.
Now then, where's that Bruce Robinson book - I need some thoughtful respite from the village of the damned.
