UK Comedy TV Everyone Should See (and an unrelated question)

Other films, music, TV and books

trouble with mp and fawlty towers is the same as is happening to only fools and horses. theyre great comedy. but people are sick and tired of them, as due to the nature of 24hr cable and satelite tv, theyre on all the time, and folk get fed up of seeing the same stuff ad-nauseum.
mp is flat now like fawlty towers. but you have to see it in context. remember that when it was made, it was unlike anything that had ever been done before. and thats why its so influential. if you see it now after watching everything since, then you lose track of the fact that when it came out, there had been absolutely nothing like it before. many producers of comedy in the last 30 years, when asked what got them into it, will cite MP as a major influence. i think that this influence seems diluted now by all thats come since, but if you bear in mind that MP came first, then it really was groundbreaking stuff!.

I reckon I have to go with "The Young Ones", although there are so many to choose from. I like "Spaced" a lot too.

aleks, do you remember watching Till Death Us Do Part?

I was just a tiny , tiny tot when that was on, in fact barely an infant, but I can still remember laughing fit to burst at some episodes. When watching English football on TV, I still can't stop myself shouting 'Run you bloody coon!' in an Alf voice, even though politically incorrect speech is a crime now, punishable by some horrible consequences laid on by braindead bureaucratic tyrants.
The carrot has mystery. Flowers are essentially tarts, prostitutes for the bees.

Have seen it but don't remember it as a child.
That's why I put Dad's Army as not only is it funny (quite)
but I remember watching it as a kid and get that warm feeling that
although all around us die, as we will too, in the ether (or on DVD)
there is a timeless place where Dad's Army is always running and time stands still.
Like a fucked clock. As it were.
