MARDALE THE SUNKEN VILLAGE MURDERED BY MANCHESTER WATER, U/U

This was the village of Mardale which lies under the surface of Haweswater, the iconic view that marwood witnessed on his first morning at crow crag, which only resurfaces in times of drought. A jewel in cumbrias crown lost forever in favour of progress, you can still make out the tennis courts which were part of the old Dunn Bull hotel, check out the link for an astonishing journey into this now underwater place in time.

Thanks for posting those pictures, really interesting.
I wonder if there's any hauntings/supernatural events in that area, this quite often happens with flooded villages etc?
If I see that silage heap hanging around up here.....

what absolute twaddle. why the assumption that anything old would be haunted? only spirits in that place would be behind the bar in the pub!!

interestingly, when they bought the valley to build the reservoir, included in the land area was another local valley. this valley was also dammed and flooded and beneath the waters of that other valley also lie houses and farms. that valley is, of course wet sleddale, there is even a pic of it on that site if you look under the heading 'twice moved for the waters'.

which is a kind of interesting withnail related link too!!

Most recent trip to the cottage complete with low level Wet sleddale resevoir it was certainly better than watching them overpaid prima donnas, commonly known as the England world cup football team.

Just keep using them hosepipes and lets see what emerges from the deep.
