snowy sleddale- very pic heavy!!

PostPosted by jeff wode » Mon Feb 09, 2009 1:16 am

went up on sat, as i said we would, and we were just 2 of several dozen people making the trip, all of whom were going to look at the place before it sells in case we all lose all access to it afterwards. , anyhow, one of the four guys in the indoors shot knows the guy in appleby who took the stove out of the building after the film. its currently in the guys kitchen!!

we signed the visitors book, and as we stood on the hillside, we saw a stream of small groups and individuals all heading to the place, down both sides of the lake. if it was like that al day i recon that well over 60 people made it to sleddale on that saturday alone!

the old barn at the bottom of the hill has now been demolished leaving just this hayshed that was on the end of it. its been re roofed and sits next to a huge pile of stones that was formerly the building. u/u are very selective about which derelict farm buildings they save and which they lose.

well at least we know where the porch roof is, its in the outhouse!!

more folk turn up,

time to set off back as a few noisier groups were heading down the side of the valley,
Image

Image

someone had subtley modified the snowmen so that only one of them was now a snowman and the cold had obviously not got to him!!
Image

Image

finally, on the way out of the valley we passed these small monuments to the farmers ongoing battle with mr mole!! the tradition is that you hang the dead moles on the fence both to show how good you are at catching them, but also so the old wives tale goes, to scare any surviving moles away!!
Image

we popped to bampton, and then set off to haweswater, but the snow and ice was so bad i feared that had we gone down the haweswater lakeside road, we may well have no been able to get back up the hill out again.
Image

so i'll leave you with this, a quick 180 degree panarama of the snow covered wet sleddale valley.

It was Parkin and I who put the porch roof in the outhouse.

What fucker blocked off the coalbunker entrance? As if a flimsy piece of plywood is enough to keep out a determined withnailer. TAKE THE BASTARD AXE TO IT!

Excellent! These are a great set of photos, you must have been frozen through. I think that the nearer the auction date approaches, the more people will make the pilgrimage.

wasnt that bad actually, so long as you kept moving, ive been there when it was raining and windy in the spring, and it was much colder and less comfortable.
