Depends

Read:

No one is to blame

Now read:

No-one is to blame

I think the latter is correct.

If you read the first, there should be a mini pause after the word 'No', and that sounds wrong: No [pause] one [pause] is [pause] to [pause] blame

Whereas 'No-one' sounds better when it's all one word. No-one [pause] is [pause] to [pause] blame.

Can you point me in the direction of an indisputable source?

Not sure if this is indisputable, but here is what dictionary.com says:

"no one
–noun
no person; not anyone; nobody: No one is home.
Also, no-one.

Origin:
1595–1605"

Couldn't find anything on Oxford. For either 'no one' or 'no-one'

Aye, I've been looking for about 20 minutes without success. Chambers UK says no-one is OK but I don't trust the haggis eating savages. Maybe I am wrong about this. Very, very occasionally I am wrong about things. I will have to get hold of a proper OED before I admit it though.

While I'm on the subject, this is another pet hate of mine. No one is two separate words. Not noone, not no-one but no one.

I even notice this mistake on the BBC News website quite frequently.

Also please don't just resort to insulting each other. A good debate/argument is OK but don't take it too far, boys.

ive not insulted anyone, so far as im aware. if i have, then it was unintended, however itf its my views that offend, then im sorry, but i dont apologise for holding them.

I read online last night that the OED updates itself. Language evolves, so what is correct one day may be incorrect the next.

Which throws up the questions:
who makes up the rules?;
why do the rules change?;
who gives the rule-makers the authority to change the rules?

(Okay, maybe I do need to get out a bit more!)

It's called etymology.

From Wikipedia:
Etymology is the study of the history of words; and how their form and meaning have changed over time.

I have an interest in the English language, which, for me, was used superbly in 'Withnail'.

Many people agree that the longevity of 'W & I' is down to the script.

I think everyone would agree with that... cos it certainly aint the physical comedy or the nudity (Withnail covered in deep heat, uncle Monty in makeup and presuming Ed in the bath anyone? Didnt think so)
The film would be nothing without the script... and could we please stop the english lesson now?
Right lads!
